Sacred herb with the blood of Mahatma Gandhi

The grass on which the blood of the murdered Mahatma Gandhi dried up was sold for 12,000 pounds ($ 12,127 / € 19,116) by the Mullock auction house in the city of Stretton (central England).

This amazing artifact was part of the collection of items that belonged to Gandhi, for which a total of £ 153,600 (€ 186,350) was obtained.

The grass was collected by P.P. Nambiar in the garden of a residence in New Delhi, where Gandhi was assassinated by the Hindu extremist Gods on January 30, 1948, and was auctioned off today, along with other personal items such as glasses, a book of prayers and a few letters from him.

The grass, which is stored in a small wooden box with a glass lid, is accompanied by a note from Nambiar, who also wrote a book about his memories and crime, as well as about how he received the blades of grass that were auctioned.

“We know that this is one of the most sacred relics of Gandhi in India. We sell it with the utmost respect for its importance, in the hope that it will be acquired by a person who understands its holiness, ”said Richard Westwood-Brooks, a specialist in Indian history.

Gandhi’s glasses, which he wore in the last months of his life, also found a buyer - they paid 40,800 pounds (49,486 US dollars / 65,000 Euros) for them. The Indian leader received these points in 1947 in the UK, while he was visiting friends and members of the London Vegetarian Society, to which he had belonged since 1891, since his studies in London as a lawyer. Another part of the collection - books, prayers, went for 12,600 pounds (15,284 US dollars euros / 20,000).
