The Louvre has announced the expansion of space for works on Islam

This autumn The louvre museum (Louvre) opens a new exhibition space dedicated exclusively to the art of Islam. An additional 4,600 square meters have been created for the new department in the heart of the museum, which will showcase about 20,000 works of art, the museum’s press service announced today.

The representative of the most visited museum in the world, which sold 8.8 million tickets in 2011, stressed, from an architectural point of view, the new branch is the result of the technological feat of architects Mario Bellini and Rudy Ricciotti. The exhibition will cover all areas of the culture of Islamic civilization from Spain to India, from the seventh century to the present day. The exhibits of the collection were acquired at the museum’s own expense.
