III Biennale of black and white photography MFamilia

From August 13 to 18, MFamilia will hold a biennale of black and white photography at the Center for Books and Graphics gallery. The exhibition will feature works by photographers from all over Russia.

The history of photography began with black and white photographs. After 200 years, black and white frames continue to remain relevant, forcing the viewer to delve deeper into the atmosphere of the photograph, surprising and memorable even in the modern world where color images have become commonplace.

The Biennale of Black and White Photography, which the creative association MFamilia is holding in St. Petersburg for the third time, represents a unique view of different authors on the world, where each image reflects deep feelings and becomes an artistic statement. The emphasis on black and white allows you to see the world differently, focusing on geometry, texture and light, emphasizing the expressiveness of the photographers’ work.

As Henri Cartier-Bresson wrote, the creative act in the art of photography is brief. “One moment: throw - you bring the viewfinder to your eye; instant reaction - you capture through the camera what strikes you. When you take a photo, it’s like you’re painting a picture, but in one second.”

In the digital age, when everyone has a camera in their pocket, it is especially important to allow yourself to slow down and see the work of photographers, which are contemporary paintings, for real, live, and not on a mobile phone screen. The black and white exhibition offers the viewer a deep immersion into the world of photography, gives the opportunity to experience the beauty and emotional power of the image in a new format, and find a photographer who will want to entrust the history of their family.
