Lecture in sign language "Exotic motifs in the paintings of Russian artists"

Central Asia for Russian artists of the 19th and first half of the 20th century is a mythical land, a source of inspiration. The bright sunlight hiding the volumes of objects, the flashy colors of ikat fabrics, the silhouettes of Shahi-Zinda and Gur-Emir did not leave anyone indifferent. The exotic atmosphere of the East was conveyed by Vasily Vereshchagin in his Turkestan Series, Pavel Kuznetsov in the Kyrgyz Suite and Bukhara Series. The images of Turkmenistan are also found in the watercolor albums of Reuben Mazel.

There were also those who did not limit themselves to visiting guests in exotic countries, but stayed here for a long or forever. Among them are Alexander Nikolaev (Usto Mumin), Victor Ufimtsev, Pavel Benkov, Nadezhda Kashina, 3inaida Kovalevskaya, Vladimir Rozhdestvensky, Mikhail Kurzin and many others.

In his lecture, Victor Palenniy will talk about the canvases of Russian artists of the 19th and first half of the 20th century. It will be about the atmosphere and contrast of cultures that inspired painters in their overseas trips.
