Photographer Cho Ying Jin belongs to the galaxy of talented contemporary photographers of the Republic of Korea. The Ray of Light exhibition combines 40 black and white photographs of nature taken at different times of the year. In his works, the author turns to classic black and white photography. They were created on the basis of traditional techniques, but the artist introduces new author’s elements into it.
Cho Yin Jin’s works reflect the artist’s respectful, sincere view of natural phenomena. In his landscapes, light is the main character: it penetrates impenetrable forests, softly illuminates wide expanses of water and flowering glades, gently sparkles on the coastal boulders washed by water and flashes with a special glow in the clouds of a high sky. Trees on white paper resemble ink painting. Technically, this is achieved through the detailed manual adjustment of aperture and distance inherent in Cho Ying Jin. But the poetry of his landscapes is a special personal perception of the unique beauty of nature.
The photo exhibition “Ray of Light” was organized with the assistance of Andrei Martynov, Director General of the Moscow Biennale. Cho Ying Jin was born in 1962 in Seoul. He was educated as a dentist and graduated from the University of Seoul in 1988, then continued his education in New York. He is fond of photography since his youth. The works of Cho Ying Jin were exhibited at exhibitions in his native Seoul, in the cities of the USA and in Moscow, where experts of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts drew attention to them. A.S. Pushkin and took a number of pictures in the collection of this museum. In addition to the Pushkin Museum, they are in public and private collections in the United States, the Republic of Korea and Russia.
