Meyerling, with its emotional depth, nervous images and one of the most difficult parts for a male dancer, is a classic of the Royal Ballet. Kenneth McMillan staged a sophisticated ballet about the psychological throwing of Crown Prince Rudolph, heir to the Habsburg empire. From the very beginning of the ballet, the luxury of the Austro-Hungarian court was contrasted with secret love and political intrigues, which ultimately lead to a bloody denouement in the form of double suicide. The large composition makes it possible for detailed ensembles in addition to the numerous solo variations of the protagonist and the sensual pas de deux leaving a sense of anxiety.
