The tradition of holding public concerts by stars of the world classical scene against the backdrop of urban architectural landscapes this year celebrates its first small anniversary - five years. In honor of the City Day - the Foundation Day of St. Petersburg, the evening program will feature the most beloved and popular classical works by Rossini, Verdi, Bizet, Kalman, Puccini, Strauss, and some of them performed by People’s Artist of Russia Anna Netrebko. This will be the premiere open-air performance of the prima world opera in St. Petersburg.

Together with her, soloists, who are world famous and traditionally represent the domestic opera school, will appear on the stage near Zimny. According to the already established tradition of the “Classics at the Palace” seasons, all musical works will be performed by the Mikhailovsky Theater Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Tatarnikov, which will give a special status and high aesthetic tone to the coming evening.

The Classics at the Palace show will also take place with the participation of the SoGlasie Youth Choir led by Pavel Teplov, dancers of the Ballet Theater Konstantin Tachkin, the St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theater named after Leonid Yakobson, as well as the collective of the unique Theater “Wandering Dolls of Mr. Pejo” culture of carnival, grotesque and buffoonery, which will immerse the viewer in a masquerade atmosphere with reincarnation and secret intrigue.

The intrigue of the dance will consist of fragments from the masterpieces of world choreographic art performed by the Prime Minister of the Berlin State Ballet, Din Tamazlakar, and the prima ballerina of the ballet troupe of the Berlin State Opera, Yana Salenko.

Traditionally, special attention will be paid to the design of the scene. Bright stylistic finds, which even the most inexperienced spectator will certainly notice and appreciate, will create the atmosphere of a palace ball, which suddenly spills out a magical whirlwind of colors, sounds and movements onto Palace Square. In the flickering waltz of light, the familiar space will be transformed, and ceremonial palace interiors will open to meet the audience. Behind the light, as if nonexistent colonnade, a view of the magnificent gates of the Winter Palace will open. The baroque beauty of its facade will be emphasized by a magnificent gilded chandelier with a diameter of 2.5 meters, consisting of 32 small chandeliers and 2,500 crystal pendants. A wide staircase framed by a wrought-iron gilded lattice and decorated with lush candelabra will complete the framing of the festive event.

From any point in the improvised concert hall, what is happening on the stage will be clearly visible thanks to the large-sized LED video screens that will be installed on Palace Square.
