July 4 at 18.00 in the Perm Art Gallery opens an exhibition of works by the Perm artist Anatoly Filimonov (1949-2002). The exhibition presents works performed in the period 1970-2000 in various visual techniques, different genres and themes: landscapes, portraits and self portraits, narrative paintings, decorative compositions, philosophical works on biblical themes.
In Perm, Anatoly Filimonov began working in 1973, after graduating from the Faculty of Decorative and Applied Art at the Moscow Institute of Technology, and immediately declared himself as a multifaceted artist. The first works, shown by Filimonov at exhibitions, were made in the technique of lacquer miniatures. Later he worked in easel painting, monumental and decorative arts; constantly experimenting, studied, used and combined a variety of techniques and technologies. Being an excellent draftsman, he wrote a lot with coal and sanguine, creating deep, high artistic portraits of artist friends. In the 1970s he studied batik, which was extremely popular in the Soviet art of the time. During these years, decorative compositions were created for public interiors of Perm: the circus curtain for the Perm circus (1974), the Music of Flowers panel for the Russian Pancake cafe (1975), the Aelita restaurant panel (1976), composition "Earth and people" for the bar "Nagorny".
The exhibition "The Magic Artist" presents about 50 works by the master, created in 1970-2000: graphics, painting, decorative and applied art. Among them, a series of lyrical landscapes brought from traveling around the country and native land: “Crossing. Annensky Bridge ”,“ Ilinsky Park ”,“ Gate of a house on the outskirts ”. Works from the grotesque series "Modern Tradesmen" (1979), exposing the moral shortcomings of people.
The exhibition also contains views of the old provincial Perm from the famous series “Perm 100 Years Ago”. Especially popular with the audience, it represents our city under the veil of romance and nostalgia. An important semantic load in the pictures is a genre element. Couples walk by old mansions, carriages pass, children play, street sweepers sweep the street. Before us is like Perm from a beautiful dream, but at the same time alive and surprisingly charming. Blurred silhouettes, light smoke, a sense of "watercolor" - all this creates a touching and close image of each city.
The most important stage is connected with the life of Anatoly Filimonov with the creation of the “Bible cycle” (1995-2000) - some of these works were also included in the exhibition. In these works, the artist does not simply convey the content of biblical scenes. These are works of deep philosophical meaning, an attempt to express one’s understanding of the World, God, Man.
“During all the periods of his creative work, the Master felt a keen desire to express his understanding of the meaning of life, he always looked for a form of realization of his thoughts, and it was in the Biblical Cycle that he rose to a deep philosophical and artistic generalization. The special construction of the space, unexpected angles, interesting color solutions make these canvases fascinatingly attractive. And together with the Master, you walk along the path of the biblical heroes, comprehend the wisdom of allegory and at some point keenly understand how important it is for all of us to think about eternal truths, good and evil, and values of a higher order.
Anatoly Filimonov - a special artist. The epithet “magic”, given many years ago by fans, is unusually suitable for him. Almost two decades have passed since the unexpected departure of the Master, and his paintings are still in demand. Landscapes and genres, portraits and decorative compositions, philosophical works on biblical themes — everything he created does not fade with time ”(Irina Andrenko, art historian).
