July 4 at 18.00 in the Perm Art Gallery opens an exhibition of works by Perm artist Anatoly Filimonov (1949-2002). The exposition presents works performed in the period 1970-2000 in various visual techniques, different genres and themes: landscapes, portraits and self-portraits, plot paintings, decorative compositions, philosophical works on biblical themes.
Anatoly Filimonov began working in Perm in 1973, after graduating from the faculty of decorative and applied art of the Moscow Technological Institute, and immediately declared himself as a multifaceted artist. The first works shown by Filimonov at the exhibitions were performed using the lacquer miniature technique. Later he worked in easel painting, monumental and decorative art; constantly experimenting, studying, using and combining a wide variety of techniques and technologies. Being an excellent draftsman, he painted a lot of coal and sanguine, creating deep, highest artistic portraits of friends of artists. In the 1970s he was engaged in batik, which was unusually popular in Soviet art of that time. In the same years, decorative compositions were created for Perm’s public interiors: the Circus curtain for the Perm Circus (1974), the Music of Flowers panel for the Russian Pancakes cafe (1975), and the panel for the Aelita restaurant (1976), composition "Earth and people" for the "Nagorny" bar.
The exhibition "Magic Artist" presents about 50 works by the master, created in 1970-2000: graphics, painting, decorative and applied art. Among them are a series of lyrical landscapes brought from traveling around the country and their native land: “Crossing. Annensky Bridge ”,“ Ilyinsky Park ”,“ Gate of the house on the outskirts ”. Works from the grotesque series "Modern Philistines" (1979), exposing the moral flaws of people.
The exposition also contains views of the old provincial Perm from the famous series "Perm 100 years ago." Especially popular with viewers, it represents our city under the veil of romance and nostalgia. An important semantic load is in the paintings of the genre element. Couples walk past old mansions, carriages pass by, children play, street sweepers sweep the street. Before us is like Perm from a beautiful dream, but at the same time lively and surprisingly charming. Blurry silhouettes, light haze, a sense of "watercolor" - all this creates a touching and close to everyone image of the city.
The most important stage in the life of Anatoly Filimonov was the creation of the “Bible cycle” (1995-2000) - part of these works was also included in the exposition. In these works, the artist does not simply convey the content of biblical subjects. These are works of deep philosophical meaning, an attempt to express their understanding of the World, God, Man.
“The Master throughout all periods of his work felt a keen desire to express his understanding of the meaning of life, he always looked for the embodiment of his thoughts, and it was in the Bible cycle that he rose to a deep philosophical and artistic generalization. The special construction of the space, unexpected angles, interesting coloristic solutions make these canvases fascinatingly attractive. And together with the Master, you walk along the path of biblical heroes, comprehend the wisdom of allegory, and at some point you acutely understand how important it is for all of us to think about eternal truths, good and evil, higher values.
Anatoly Filimonov is a special artist. The epithet “magic”, given many years ago by fans, is unusually suitable for him. Almost two decades have passed since the unexpected departure of the Master, and his paintings are still in demand. Landscapes and genres, portraits and decorative compositions, philosophical works on biblical themes - everything that he created does not fade with time ”(Irina Andrenko, art critic).
