An exhibition of classical Chinese painting of the GONBI style ("thorough brush") by Master Gong Xueqing

At the Art Deco Museum on Luzhnetskaya nab., Building 2/4, building 4, the personal exhibition of the master of Chinese classical painting of the style, Gunbi Gong Xueqing (龚雪青), Honored Art Worker of China, an artist working on the problem of actualizing the traditional fine heritage in the modern world, will open.

“Observing the classical works of Chinese painting, the subtly-feeling spectator experiences a rare sense of thrill from contemplating a creation so incomprehensible that only one term appears in my memory -“ perfection ”- wrote the Russian painter and traveler A.V. Vereshchagin in 1902.

And a century later, these words most accurately describe the impression of the European sophisticated viewer from the first encounter with paintings in the style of Gunby. Flowers, birds, butterflies, foggy mountains and other symbols of the aesthetic and philosophical enjoyment of China’s cultural tradition come out as living from under the artist’s “thorough brush” - and this is how the name of the style is translated. In China, the basis of artistic tradition has always been embodied by the plastic unity of material and spiritual creative energies. The art form in Chinese art is not a closed volume, but a dynamic flow of a single space-time continuum. This stream captures the viewer and plunges into a special rhythm of oriental contemplation.

The works of the artist Gong Xueqing are natural and fresh, they contain classical sophistication, sophistication, richness and harmony of color, a rare meticulousness in creating the composition. He is not only the successor of the Chinese classical painting technique in the Gunbi style, but also an innovator who managed to combine the Western style of painting with Chinese techniques, creating a new style in Chinese painting. He boldly combines realistic plots and illusion in one work. His paintings are distinguished by an unusual rhythm of filling the fullness and emptiness of space, indicating the highest level of skill.

Interest in Chinese culture and art is unusually high in Russia, especially today. In the context of the rapid growth of international projects and business contacts, the need to gain understanding and a common language with Eastern partners comes to the fore, and art is one of the most effective public languages and keys to the mentality and behavior of nations.

A series of master classes will also be held as part of the artist’s visit to Moscow.

A few words about the artist. Gong Xueqing was born in Renqiu, Hebei Province. An active member of the Hebei Provincial Union of Artists, a member of the All-China Society of Artists Writing in the Chinese Traditional Gunbi Style. Member of the Board of the Cangzhou City Artists Union. Visiting Professor at Hebei Academy of the Arts. Gong Xueqing has published several books - manuals for learning the style of Gunbi.
