Paintings by N. Khotemova is a story about today’s Africa, about its struggle, about the most important problems. In these works live strong noble feelings, leaving no room for surface exoticism. In addition to figurative finds, the masterful use of color expression, Nonna Khotemova’s paintings carry a great social content - she is close to the world of ordinary people who have broken the chains of colonial slavery.
“For me, Africa,” Khotemova says, “these are my feelings, thoughts, my work as an artist. I always recall an excerpt from a poem by a remarkable contemporary poet Nazim Hikmet: “If I don’t burn, if you don’t burn, if we don’t burn, then who will dissipate the darkness?” In these verses is the high meaning of all my work as an artist ”.

NONA KHOTEMOVA: A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
Nonna Georgievna Khotemova was born on October 15, 1915 in the Komi Republic of the Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1941 she graduated from the Moscow State Art Institute. V.I. Surikova. Since 1957, N. Khotemova - a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, as well as a regular participant in art exhibitions on the theme of the liberation of Africa. In 1962, Nonna Georgievna joined the board of the Association of Friendship with the Peoples of African Countries. Eighteen trips abroad have created a solid, serious basis for her knowledge and understanding of the life of the African continent.
