Exhibition "Works of the Imperial Glass Factory of the 19th - early 20th centuries from the collection of the Historical Museum"

The exposition presents over 100 works of the Imperial Glass Factory from the collection of the Department of Ceramics and Glass of the Historical Museum.

“The collection of ceramics and glass of the Historical Museum was formed at the beginning of the 20th century and during its existence has become one of the largest collections in Russia, which numbers more than 36 thousand items. Among them are works of different countries and eras, but things related to the activities of the Imperial Glass Factory are of particular value, ”says director Alexei Levykin.

Most of the items presented at the exhibition were made by order of the Imperial Court. They were used in numerous palaces of members of the Russian Imperial House as serving items and interior decoration, constituted an obligatory part of the dowry of grand dukes and princesses, were a sign of the highest status for their owners from aristocratic families. The designs of I.S.Z.’s products were developed by the leading artists of their time, and the finished works have always been distinguished by impeccable craftsmanship and style, which rightfully makes I.S.Z. the "trendsetter" of Russian glassmaking.

The Imperial Glass Factory was also a constant participant in all-Russian and world exhibitions. The exposition presents works of special quality, which were specially created by the masters of the plant to demonstrate the achievements of Russia in this industrial sector.

The exhibition tells the story of the enterprise that made the glory of Russian artistic glassmaking, and shows the technological and artistic achievements of the imperial glassmakers.
