Pavel Korbut shoots musicians in the midst of their performances, trying to transfer the rhythms and melodies of jazz to the film. The close-ups taken by him of saxophonists, guitarists, vocalists, drummers, it seems, convey the very soul of jazz music: spiritualized, aesthetic, passionate. The photographer does not recognize staged scenes, improvising along with his characters. Thanks to this approach, his work is very natural and sincere. Each of them seems ready to come to life under the gaze of an attentive viewer and tell him his unusual story, to carry away with him into the world of music. It is revealed to us that is not accessible to the attention of those sitting in the hall, we hear the sounds of jazz and feel its incredible energy and emotions of the performers.
“A photograph will not sound unless the photographer has two strong passions at the same time: photography and music. I love jazz and love taking pictures. These two loves united in me. I try to show the music performers, their emotional mood and condition - this is the most important thing for me, ”the photographer believes.
Korbut presents his works to the audience, both in color and in black and white. Recently, however, an increasing number of his shots have been released in classic black and white printing. The author explains this by the fact that color distracts the viewer.
“I’m still more prone to black and white photographs, because the play of light and shadow conveys something more emotional than color. Sometimes color even interferes with the perception of the image. He distracts the audience’s attention from important concrete details, ”says Pavel Korbut.
