Exhibition "Vitaly Smagin and his school. Decorative art"

January 23 at 16.00 in the Gallery of Siberian Art (St. Karl Marx, 23) will open the exhibition "Vitaly Smagin and his school. Decorative Art ”is a continuation of the project dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Department of Monumental and Decorative Painting named after V. G. Smagin IRNITU. On display are works made using monumental and decorative painting techniques: mosaics, stained glass, tapestry, fusing, hot enamel, fabric applique.

Vitaly Georgievich Smagin (1937–2015) - People’s Artist of Russia, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, honorary citizen of the city of Irkutsk, professor. He was a teacher who generously shared his talent with numerous students. His brainchild - the department of monumental and decorative painting - became the first higher art educational institution to open in Irkutsk. The graduates of the department, united with their teacher in a spiritual position and cultural aesthetics, became representatives of the Smagin School. Each of them is a bright creative individuality. Their works are exhibited in museums and galleries in Russia and other countries. All of them took place as professionals in the art world and joined the ranks of the Union of Artists of Russia, regularly become laureates and diplomas of exhibitions of competitions of the highest level. Many artists continue the work of Vitaly Georgievich Smagin, successfully teach at the department, transferring their knowledge to new generations of students.

In the exhibition you can see the works of both Vitaliy Smagin himself and his students - teachers and graduates of the department: Natalya Dovnich, Grigory Sverdlov, Dmitry Dorokhin, Maria Bykova, Svetlana Anosova, Sergey Andreiko, Elena Sergeychuk, Larisa Malkina, Evgenia Smorzh, Anastasia Izhganaitene, Nadezhda Malysheva, Natalya Blinnikova, Oksana Romanyuk, Ekaterina Sidelnikova, Julia Bardina, Olga Ilyina, Ekaterina Ilkova, as well as talented students.

As part of the opening of the exhibition, the presentation of the album "Vitaly Smagin and his school" will be held, dedicated to the work of graduates of the department of monumental and decorative painting named after V. G. Smagin IRNITU.

The exhibition "Vitaly Smagin and his school" will open on January 23 at 16.00 in the Gallery of Siberian Art of the Irkutsk Art Museum (23 Karl Marx St.) and will run until February 23. Entrance to the opening is free.
