Exhibition projects of the Historical Museum for 2022

Exhibitions dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Historical Museum and major international projects are awaiting visitors from February 2022.

In 2022, the State Historical Museum will celebrate its 150th anniversary. In honor of the anniversary, the Historical Museum will continue to open large exhibition projects, including exhibitions from the collections of museums in Italy and Germany, several exhibitions from the funds of the Historical Museum, as well as a project with the Gokhran of Russia.

“Next year we have a rich program. The Historical Museum will continue to receive not only "exhibitions-gifts" from the leading Russian cultural institutions, but also the second exhibition will be held within the framework of the project "Treasures of Italian Museums in the Historical Museum". The Historical Museum will also delight the residents of Tula, where several exhibitions from the museum collection will take place, ”says director Alexei Levykin.

The main exhibitions of the State Historical Museum in 2022:

Treasures of Genoa Museums, 13 September 2022 - 16 January 2023

The exhibition will be the second project in the framework of cooperation between Italian museums and the Historical Museum. The exhibition will include treasures from several museums in Genoa - masterpieces from the Basilica of St. Lawrence, the Museum of St. Augustine, the Strada Nuova Museum, which brings together the collections of three historical palazzo Bianco, Rossi and Doria Tursi. The exhibition will feature paintings by Van Dyck, Magnasco, and one of the main exhibits will be the painting "Behold the Man" by Caravaggio, which will be shown in Moscow for the first time.

“Exhibition of new acquisitions. To the 150th anniversary of the Historical Museum ", February 8 - May

The exhibition of new acquisitions will showcase 150 of the best monuments that have entered the collection of the Historical Museum over the past 10 years. The museum’s collections were replenished thanks to purchases by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, acquisitions at the expense of sponsors and donors, archaeological expeditions, and donations from individuals. The exposition will feature the most valuable items from those received by the museum fund - the Raphael service, created by order of Emperor Alexander II, a silver concealment that belonged to Peter the Great, a rare collection of works from the Imperial glass factory, a set of things that belonged to Admiral A. V. Kolchak, painting, works of arts and crafts and rare icons.

"Peter I. Travel to Europe", May 17 - October

The exhibition is dedicated to the Great Embassy of Peter I to Europe, which largely determined the nature of the country’s reforms and transformations, and contributed to the expansion and consolidation of political and cultural ties between Russia and European countries. The exhibition is based on the monuments of the era from the State Historical Museum funds: personal belongings and portraits of Tsar Peter I and his associates, European household items of the 17th-18th centuries, costumes, weapons, furniture, rare engravings, maps and documents.

"Russia. The Roads of Civilizations ", April 12 - August

The exhibition will allow you to take a different look at the cultural heritage preserved for millennia, see ancient and medieval civilizations in motion and feel yourself as the creator of the civilization of the modern world. The main conceptual task of the exhibition is not only to present in the museum space millennial national images of Russia, reflected in the historical memory of generations of many tribes and peoples, but also to demonstrate the connection between Russia and the main civilizational centers of Eurasia.

“Man-made connection of times. The Art of Russian Jewelers ", February 15 - April 16

The exhibition project of the Gokhran of Russia and the State Historical Museum is designed to visually show the creative connection between the masters of the past and the present. The central part of the exhibition will be occupied by the works of the winners of the state jewelry art competition “Russia. XXI Century". The best entries will acquaint the guests of the jewelry art exhibition with a variety of techniques and technologies, original creative ideas, demonstrating centuries-old jewelry traditions.

“War and Peace in Ancient Greece. From the collection of the Pergamon Museum (Berlin) and the Historical Museum ", December 6, 2022 - March 2023

The joint exhibition project will present the opposition of the two sides of life in antiquity - war and peaceful competition. Between these two big themes lies the road of life of an ordinary person of that time with all its attributes, including the religious awareness of the world around him. Exhibits of the exhibition from two major world collections will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to plunge into the world of ancient art.
