Description of Ilya Repin’s Portrait of M. F. Andreeva
Ilya Repin’s painting depicts one of the most brilliant women of the early twentieth century, Maria Feodorovna Andreeva. This woman was a remarkable actress of the theater, highly respected in cultural circles. But most importantly, she had a very bright, explosive character. That restless temperament of the woman and tried to convey Repin in this work.
In the picture we see a woman in a sitting position. The body of her body is rotated by three-quarters. The woman is wearing a black dress. The master skilfully painted every fold in the fabric. It looks as if it is velvet with a blue color. Maria has a lady’s hat on her head. You can immediately see that the girl was a big fashionista and showed it in public in every way. A very interesting point is the contrast of the dress and hat. The modest, but expensive fabric dress, with slightly protruding white cuffs is more reminiscent of a nun’s clothing. But the richly decorated, wide-brimmed hat of interesting, ornate form completely dispels the sense of chastity of the heroine of the picture. Maria is wearing a rhombic gold pendant on her chest as an ornament.
Maria Feodorovna poses the artist, sitting in an expensive armchair. The artist has deliberately traced every detail of the armchair to emphasize its value: the soft upholstery on the seat and armrests, the carved mahogany backrest. A garden is visible in the background. The luxurious greenery on the trees contrasts and at the same time accentuates the lady’s statuesque figure.
The first thing that catches the eye when looking at the painting is the expression of Maria Andreeva’s face. Her eyes are strong, passionate, strong-willed. A femme fatale. But she sneers-the corners of her mouth pointing upward. These small details, like color contrast, deliberately mismatched clothing, tell us about the restless nature of the portrayed, her inner struggle. The artist succeeded very well in conveying, to us viewers, Maria Andreeva’s inner mood, especially during her years of secret adherence to the Bolsheviks.

Гадина была эта Андреева. С её лёгкой руки убили лучшего предпринимателя той России – Савву Морозова. Который как лох влюбился в эту расчётливо жестокую женщину. И которая была в сговоре с теми, кто разваливал Российскую империю. Свою же от природы красоту, эта тварь использовала для того, чтобы бабла немеренно сорвать с тех кто в неё влюблялся. Россию же она, судя по её действиям, как и её друзья ненавидела. Уже в наше время другие мерзавцы ради личной выгоды развалили и предали и Советскую империю.
