Feshins stunning paintings have been memorable to me since childhood. Unfortunately, in Russia, I was only able to see a few of his works in their original form. Few masters can rival him in his mastery of a broad, bold brushstroke while still maintaining an incredible attention to detail!
Feshin is a great artist. I first saw his paintings in a Kazan gallery and immediately fell in love with them. He has an unparalleled ability to capture the essential qualities of peoples souls on canvas. Portraits of unknown people are rarely interesting, but Feshins heroes dont feel like strangers – viewers learn more about them than their loved ones do. Its amazing!
I first saw Nikolai Fechins painting Cabbage Patch at the Leningrad Academy Museum many years ago (more than 20). It was a real shock! I have remembered my impressions all these years. I am very glad to become acquainted with his work so comprehensively, as this wonderful artist is presented here. Thank you very much, Nikolai, for your talent and tremendous effort. But in the paintings there is lightness and freedom, magnificent color solutions, an amazing love for people, whose portraits the artist paints! The size of the works is impressive. What a mess! But, in my opinion, the perspective is not accurate – the back is too long. The right foot looks deformed. Is it like that in real life? ❯❯❯
