Fra Angelico (1400-1455)

Wonderful collection of works. But why did the authors assume that Fra Angelico means among angels? He belonged to a monastic brotherhood, and Fra is an abbreviation of frater, meaning brother, while Angelico means angelic, so it meant angelic brother. Thats how his first biographer, Giorgio Vasari, called him, probably because of his humble nature, which sharply contrasted with the behavior of his younger contemporary, Fra Filippo Lippi (who, despite being a monk, was a libertine and very fond of women).
