Description of Peter Rubens’ painting Bathsheba at the Fountain
Peter Paul Rubens was a famous Dutch painter who lived from 1577-1640. He painted on a variety of subjects, but his crowning works were those painted on biblical subjects.
Bathsheba at the Fountain is just based on stories from the Bible. Of course, people who are far from history and the Bible, do not immediately understand and do not recognize the characters.
At the center is the main character, Bathsheba. She was the wife of Uriah the Hittite. And the main character here is David, who is not to be found at once. He is on the balcony in the left corner of the painting. Legend has it that one day David saw a girl sitting by the fountain, he liked her madly and fell in love with her.
Rubens succeeded in conveying the beauty of the young Bathsheba. He showed us the woman’s beautiful, strong legs, firm breasts and lovely red-cheeked face. Most likely Bathsheba was washing in the morning by the pool when David saw her. Near her the artist depicted the servants.
The lady behind her is brushing Bathsheba’s long golden curls. A black boy serves the lady’s things. A small dog, probably Bathsheba’s pet, also attracts attention. The girl herself is looking somewhere in the distance. She has a noticeable smile on her face and a light in her eyes. The girl is sitting on a velvet red armchair. She is wearing a white dress, slightly downcast, and a black cloak that covers her.
The background in the painting is also beautiful. The action takes place in a palace. So behind the characters you can see a majestic arch, stone walls and pots of flowers. David himself is in the upper left corner. His figure is almost invisible. You can only slightly see that he is wearing a gold dress.
Peter Rubens knew how to capture the true beauty of the world. And he found beauty in women. Therefore, many believe that Rubens portrayed the ideal female figure. In his Bathsheba, experts find this ideal. After all, her body is truly beautiful and beautiful.

Milking is going well!
Could you please tell me the website where you found such a beautiful reproduction from the collection of the Dresden Picture Gallery? Also, is there any plan to feature the entire collection of the Dresden Gallery on your website in the future?
The Dresden Gallery is a possibility in the distant future, but its unlikely to happen this year.
You cannot comment Why?
The painting depicts a scene with several figures in an outdoor setting, likely a garden or a courtyard, with classical architectural elements in the background.
