Exhibition of the Dutch artist-traveler in the Museum of the East Automatic translate

MOSCOW. The State Museum of the East, located on Nikitsky Boulevard, invites lovers and connoisseurs of pictorial art to get acquainted with the work of a major Dutch artist Marius Bauer. His whole life was connected with travels, each of which brought new motives to his canvases related to the impressions received during the trips.

Marius Bauer made his first trip in 1888 to Istanbul. This trip impressed the artist so much that in the future he traveled not only to the Middle East, but also to India, Africa, and also traveled to Russia. An interesting story was connected with his visit to Russia. Even before the trip, in connection with the approaching coronation of Nicholas II, the artist created an engraving in which he expressed his very skeptical attitude to Russian tsarist rule.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to see this scandalous engraving on the upcoming coronation of the Russian Tsar. Then the Chronicle magazine invited Bauer to visit Moscow. His presence at the coronation ceremony as a correspondent radically changed the artist’s attitude towards Russia, and his stay in Russia served as a source of inspiration for the creation of new works.

Enthusiastic reviews of Marius Bauer about the coronation process appeared in the magazine, accompanied by drawings, and upon returning home, the sketches and sketches made during the trip became the basis for a unique series of works. The artist created canvases, watercolors and prints, which became the basis of the exhibition. These works are first shown in the country where they were conceived.

In addition to works with Russian themes, the exhibition presents the full variety of works performed by Marius Bauer.
