Eight paintings by Boris Kustodiev demonstrate in the artist’s homeland

ASTRAKHAN. In the art gallery to them. P.M. Dogadin from September 12, visitors are given a unique opportunity to see the original work of B. M. Kustodiev. The opening exhibition, dedicated to the anniversary of the birth of the master of painting, included eight paintings by B. Kustodiev, known throughout the world.

All the works presented at the exhibition are included in the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery and are shown for the first time in the artist’s homeland, in Astrakhan. Many of these paintings have a historical connection with the Astrakhan period of the artist.

The exhibition’s exposition not only traces the periods of Boris Kustodiev’s work, but also includes his favorite genres. Delivery of paintings by the famous artist was carried out by special vehicles, accompanied by armed security. The exhibition is located on the third floor of the gallery.

At the opening of the exhibition, the gallery director, Irina Perova, said that the gallery’s funds store 191 works related to the name of Boris Kustodiev, among them there are some very famous ones. However, from the opening day of the exhibition, residents of Astrakhan can get acquainted with the artist’s works, previously represented only by illustrations. True, some of the paintings received at the exhibition from the Tretyakov Gallery, some Astrakhan could see before. The famous "Beauty" was shown in Astrakhan ten years ago. A unique exhibition of works by Boris Kustodiev will be open until October 27th.

With Astrakhan the artist is connected not only by his youth spent in the city on the Volga, but also by the beginning of his career in the art of painting. Here he received the basics of art education, taking a course from the painter Pavel Vlasov, and when the young man celebrated his 18 years, he left for St. Petersburg, where he studied at the Academy of Arts under the supervision of Ilya Repin.
