Murmansk residents will see paintings by Alexander Satel, reminiscent of tapestries

MURMANSK. The city exhibition hall, located in the building of the Azimut Hotel, is waiting for guests who want to get acquainted with the unique painting technique used by the metropolitan artist Alexander Satel. Alexander’s solo exhibition is open from September 24 to October 5. It provides an opportunity for Murmansk residents to see how the paintings by Alexander Satel in their original technique differ from paintings created by artists using the classical method of writing.

He called his unique technique “tapestry writing”, using it to create paintings of various genres. In the tapestry technique, the artist paints landscapes, lyrical and battle scenes, still lifes. Its essence is that initially the painting is painted with oil or tempera, and then transparent, barely noticeable strokes of oil are applied over the image.

As a result, the color of the main paints of the canvas visually softens, and the surface layer looks like a slight haze. This technique got the name “tapestry” from the fact that when it is used, the paintings become like works made from tapestry fabric. The copyright works of Alexander Satel, written in this manner, are radically different from the works of other artists.

If Murmansk connoisseurs of painting will only have to get acquainted with amazing canvases written by Alexander Satel, then in Moscow this surname is well known. The profession of the artist was inherited by Alexander from his parents. Alexandra Kolganova and Georgy Satel were painters.

Alexander himself was educated at VGIK, where he became a movie artist. However, he participated in the creation of only one film, and then began to work only in the field of pictorial art.
