The anniversary exhibition of the artist Eugene Suscheni "In the land of epics and shrines" was opened in the Museum of Veliky Novgorod

VELIKIY NOVGOROD. The Museum of Artistic Culture of the Land of Novgorod congratulated the Novgorod artist Evgeny Sushen on the 75th anniversary of the organization of his anniversary exhibition. For the exposition presented to the museum guests on October 22, the artist selected works of various genres dedicated to the "land of epics and shrines" - the artist calls the Novgorod land.

Although Yevgeny Vasilievich was born in the Minsk region, he arrived in Novgorod only in 1968. At the end of his studies at the school. Mukhina, the artist received distribution in this ancient Russian city. Eugene Suschenya recalls - although almost all the churches of Veliky Novgorod were dilapidated at that time, the spirit of history that filled the city acted fascinatingly on him.

In his paintings, ancient Novgorod monuments are painted in yellow and red colors. Once, an artist noticed how at sunset glimmers of sunlight reflected on the red walls of the Kremlin. Since that time, Evgeny Vasilievich sees the city only in this way. His colleagues define the style in which Sushchenya works as “magical realism”.

Sushchenya himself considers himself a supporter of academic realism. True, he is not a big fan of writing small details on the canvas, but he justifies this “dislike” by writing most of his works from memory. The artist believes that his main task is to transfer the image that attracted his attention from memory to the canvas. The works of Evgeny Vasilyevich were always noticeable at numerous exhibitions, of which he became a participant several times.

Every guest of the Museum of Novgorod Land can see cycles of landscapes and portraits of famous writers, architectural monuments and images of our contemporaries, captured on canvases by Eugene Susheni’s brush.
