The Pushkin Museum. A.S. Pushkin is preparing for the opening of two major exhibitions of the summer season - “Schukin. Collection Biography ”and“ Fondation Louis Vuitton Collection. Favorites. " To implement the grandiose plan, the museum from May 14 to June 18, 2019 will close the Gallery of Art of the countries of Europe and America of the XIX – XX centuries and part of the exposition of the Main Building for the preparation of projects. The Halls of Ancient Art and European Art of the 5th – 19th Centuries (halls 16–29) will be closed in the Main Building.

New exhibitions will open for visitors on June 19. Viewers will see the main world masterpieces of modernism and contemporary art. For the duration of the exhibitions, a permanent exhibition in these halls will not be available.

An unprecedented in scale and content exhibition “Schukin. Collection Biography ”will occupy almost the entire space of the Museum’s Main Building. The collection covers the most important artistic movements of the late XIX - early XX centuries, from impressionism to modernism. Among them are the masterpieces of Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and not only. The project will present the history of the formation of the collection of the famous Moscow merchant and philanthropist Sergei Shchukin through his personality, a family biography and a historical context that will help complete the collections of his brothers Peter, Dmitry and Ivan. The objective of the exhibition is to show the collection of the great Russian collector as fully as possible and to demonstrate what role it played in the development of Russian art. Divided between the Pushkin Museum. By A.S. Pushkin and the State Hermitage, the collection of Sergei Schukin will unite at an exhibition in Moscow, which will be a unique event.

All three floors of the Art Gallery of Europe and America from the 19th – 20th centuries will be given over to the exhibition “The Fondation Louis Vuitton Collection. Favorites. " It will show works of classic art of the twentieth century - from Alberto Giacometti, Yves Klein, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol to Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Christian Boltansky, Marina Abramovich, Maurizio Cattelan, Andreas Gursky and others.

Exhibitions of two iconic collections will enable viewers to trace the similarities and differences in approaches to the formation of collections, demonstrate the evolution of the process of collecting contemporary art in the early XX and XXI century.
