Under the project “Understanding”, launched by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, for the first time from October 22 to 28, seminars “The First Ukrainian Daisy Library” will be held in many libraries of the country. The events will be held with the participation of the Lviv regional organization SBI "Ukrainian Union of Disabled Persons - ALL" and representatives of the Svefi Academy (Sweden).
According to the press service of the Ministry of Culture, “Daisy” is an audiobook format with a convenient navigation function and other features that make working with books easier for people with visual impairments. So, even a completely blind person will be able to find the necessary section or page in such an audiobook in a few seconds.
The seminar “The First Ukrainian Daisy Library” is held with the aim of acquainting and training library workers with the Daisy audiobook format, its features and advantages, software and hardware for creating Daisy books, as well as for conducting master classes and attracting people to create first daisy library. Seminars will be held in Kherson, Khust, Mukachevo and Rivne.
In June of this year, 8 Ukrainians with visual impairments visited Sweden, where they were able to master the process of creating books in the Daisy format, that is, in the format for the blind. At the moment, the number of people working on the creation of the first Ukrainian Daisy Library has reached 20, all of them are blind workers. With their help, 400 books with the convenient Daisy format were produced.
The ultimate goal of the project is to develop and fully equip the first Ukrainian Daisy library containing 2 thousand books in a special format that will have convenient navigation for both sighted and blind people.
