Unknown memoirs of Faina Ranevskaya were found

MOSCOW. For almost three years, the “Queen of the Second Plan” wrote memoirs dedicated to her life, but then she took it and burned everything in one night. However, not so long ago previously unknown manuscript materials were found, authored by the Soviet actress Faina Ranevskaya.

An inconspicuous folder with valuable records has long been gathering dust on one of the racks of the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art. A closer inspection of its contents revealed that the folder contains manuscripts about the life and career of one of the most famous women of Russia of the twentieth century. Previously unknown photographs, notes, letters, memoirs, drawings, and other details of Ranevskaya’s biography will help researchers of her work to better know this talented actress.

As it turned out, after Ranevskaya destroyed an almost ready-made collection of memoirs, she began to restore it at the request of the Soviet writer Margarita Aliger. She was a close friend of Faina, so she always said that the most talented performer of dozens of unforgettable roles is simply obliged to leave to posterity not only her image on the screen, but to write an autobiographical book that could reflect her inner world.
