MOSCOW. Paulsen Publishing House has published a book by Monica Christensen about the last days and the mysterious death of the polar explorer Roald Amundsen.

Almost 90 years have passed since the death of the famous polar traveler, who was the first to visit the geographical poles of our planet. The circumstances of the tragic finale of the rescue expedition led by Roald Amundsen, who flew from Tromsø on the distant ocean reconnaissance bomber Latham 47 in search of Umberto Nobile, are still unknown. The seaplane with the French crew never reached the crash site of the N-4 Italia airship, on which the second polar expedition of an Italian Arctic explorer was undertaken.

Amundsen died on June 18, having gone to the rescue of his antagonist. And after 5 days, Nobile flew from the ice floe that sheltered him on the plane of the Swedish Air Force lieutenant Einar Lundborg. His life was everything: glee of the crowd and persecution after the announcement of the results of the investigation into the death of the Italia airship. Five years in Dolgoprudny, work in the Airship, the creation of the first Soviet semi-rigid airship and a large boathouse, departure to America. He died in old age.

Amundsen died a month before his 56th birthday. Once, having learned about the tragic fate of the British expedition Robert Scott, who was unable to overcome 12 miles to the nearest food warehouse, Amundsen said that he would give a lot to save him without hesitation. After 15 years, he sacrificed his life for the sake of his eternal opponent.
