Dostoevsky’s festival of performances ends on the writer’s birthday

On November 7, in Veliky Novgorod, staged by the Moscow theater “Glas”, the 16th International Festival of Performances staged based on the works of Dostoevsky opened. For the second time, the regional drama theater named after the great Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky presents its stage for the opening of the festival. After the opening ceremony, the audience was shown a performance of the Glas Theater, based on the work “Stepanchikovo Village…”

The festival’s further program will be held in the city of Staraya Russa, where three scenic venues were provided for showing performances. One of them was the Dostoevsky Memorial House Museum, where the writer lived with his family for several years. In this house, the world-famous works “The Brothers Karamazov” and “Demons” were written.

Festival performances will also be shown at the Rusich Culture Center and at the Scientific and Cultural Center of the Writer’s Museum. The theater program is attended by well-known Russian theater groups and two theaters, who came from abroad - Germany and Serbia. Viewers will see not only classic chamber productions of plays based on the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky, but also experimental performances.

The theater from Serbia brought the performance “Netochka Nezvanova” to the festival, artists from Berlin will show “Dreams of Nastasya Filippovna”. Theater Studio "Harlequin", a representative of the Penza region will present to the audience its variations on the theme of Dostoevsky’s works - "Crime without punishment."

Each of the festivals held is necessarily dedicated to the birthday of Dostoevsky. So this time, on November 11, events dedicated to the memory of the great writer will be held in Staraya Russa, which will be the end of the festival events, summing up and rewarding the participants.
