"Don Quixote" from a play by Mikhail Bulgakov on the stage of the theater. Lensoviet

ST. PETERSBURG. Premieres of the play "Don Quixote", held in the theater. Lensoviet, two days in a row gathered a full audience. This is not surprising, because the stage was not a staging of the famous novel by Cervantes, but a play by Mikhail Bulgakov, which was never staged in any theater during the writer’s lifetime.

The play was not awarded the publication either, although Bulgakov wrote it by order of the theater to them. Vakhtangov, and the troupe even heard her in the author’s performance. Bulgakov had a special affection for Cervantes’ novel, read it in the original, especially for this purpose having learned Spanish. The fate of the writer was not easy, like that of a Spanish writer, who was also not spoiled by life.

However, the Bulgakov reading of the story of a lonely knight remained unclaimed at that time - the reality described in it turned out to be too tragic. Spanish motifs marked by incendiary Spanish rhythms did not become a salvation for the play.

The story, set by director Alexander Bargman, immerses viewers in the world of gloomy Bulgakov time. On the stage, Don Quixote, sucking not like the hero of a Spanish novel, in his studio, as close as his life surrounding him.

This Don Quixote is a lonely, forgotten man, not claimed by life. Trying to deal with human vices, a naive knight becomes more and more like a mentally ill person, in which there is not the slightest resemblance to Don Quixote, whom he knows from an old novel.

For the actor Sergei Migitsko, the performer of the role of Don Quixote, this performance was practically his benefit. This role became his dream come true, and participation in the play, one of the artist’s favorite writers, brought a lot of pleasure.

There was no happy ending in the play, because the story of a knight is the story of his departure.
