Dmitry Kogan appointed Artistic Director of the Moscow Camerata Orchestra

MOSCOW. An outstanding Russian violinist, Honored Artist of Russia, Professor Dmitry Kogan has been appointed artistic director of one of the leading musical groups in the capital, the Moscow Camerata Orchestra.

The orchestra was founded in 1994 by the famous violinist, conductor, teacher, People’s Artist of Russia - Igor Frolov. From the first performances to the present day, the concert activity of the orchestra has been of great interest to the public. Constant success accompanies the orchestra in all foreign tours (Spain, France, Germany, Poland, etc.) With constant success, the Moscow Camerata performs in the best concert halls in Moscow and the largest cities of Russia. The orchestra is distinguished by its unique performing style, bright sounding, professionalism, persuasive interpretation, and a variety of repertoire.

Dmitry Kogan plans to develop and promote the team on leading foreign stages, major international festivals, cooperation with prominent contemporary performers, recordings at famous recording studios.

On April 7, the orchestra, together with Dmitry Kogan, will perform at the opening of the jubilee XV International Festival “The Musical Kremlin” in the Armory of the Moscow Kremlin.

Dmitry Kogan was born on October 27, 1978 in Moscow. At the age of six, he began to practice violin at the Central School of Music at the Moscow Conservatory. He continued his education at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. At the age of ten Dmitry first performed with a symphony orchestra, at fifteen - with an orchestra in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory.

In 1997, the debut of the musician in the UK and the USA. Dmitry Kogan constantly performs in the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, Asia, America, Australia, the Middle East, the CIS and Baltic countries. Dmitry Kogan is a participant in prestigious festivals of world scale: “Karenty Summer” (Austria), music festival in Menton (France), jazz festival in Montreux (Switzerland), music festival in Perth (Scotland), as well as at festivals in Athens, Vilnius, Shanghai, Ogdon, Helsinki. In the festivals - “Cherry Forest”, “Russian Winter”, “Musical Kremlin”, “Sakharov Festival” and many others.

A special place in the violinist’s repertoire is occupied by a cycle of 24 caprices of N. Paganini, which for a long time was considered unfeasible. In the world, only a few violinists perform the entire cycle of whims. In total, the violinist has recorded 10 CDs by record companies Delos, Conforza, DV Classics and others.

In April 2009, Dmitry Kogan was the first person in his profession to give a concert for polar explorers at the North Pole. He was also the first musician to give charity concerts in Beslan after the earthquake in Nevelsk.

In September 2008, Dmitry Kogan was awarded the title “Honorary Citizen of the city of Nevelsk” for charity work. Thus, Dmitry became the youngest Russian to whom the title of honorary citizen of the city of Russia was ever awarded.

The musician pays great attention to activities to restore the status of classical music in the value system of modern society, conducts master classes in different countries, devotes a lot of time to charity work and supporting actions in favor of children and youth. Dmitry Kogan is the author and artistic director of the I International Festival. Leonid Kogan, headed the international Kogan festival in Yekaterinburg. Later - the annual International Festival "Days of High Music", which is held with great success in Vladivostok, Sakhalin, Chelyabinsk, Samara, Khabarovsk. Also in 2012, on his initiative, the Volga Festival of Sacred Music was founded.

In April 2011, through the efforts of violinist Dmitry Kogan and the head of the AVS Group holding, philanthropist Valery Savelyev, the Fund for Supporting Unique Cultural Projects named after Kogana.

The public stage of the Fund’s first project was a concert by Dmitry Kogan in the Hall of Columns on May 26, 2011. On the Russian stage, the five great violins, Stradivarius, Guarneri, Amati, Guadanini and Villom, revealed the richness and depth of their sound in the hands of Dmitry. The legendary violin “Robrecht”, created in 1728 by the greatest Cremonian master Bartolomeo Giuseppe Antonio Guarneri (del Gesu), was acquired by the Foundation for the Support of Unique Cultural Projects and transferred to Dmitry Kogan in Milan on September 1, 2011.

The unprecedented cultural project “Five Great Violins in One Concert” is presented with great success by the violinist at the best concert venues in Russia and abroad.

In January 2013, the concert “Five Great Violins” was presented by Dmitry Kogan at the World Economic Forum in Davos in the presence of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, representatives of the world political and business elite.

The disc, released in more than 30,000 copies, was donated to music schools, children’s art schools, colleges and higher educational institutions in all 83 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

June 15, 2013 in Tver began “TIME OF HIGH MUSIC” - a charity tour of the violinist in 83 regions of the Russian Federation. During the tour, both concerts and master classes will take place. The action is aimed at the artistic education of youth and the promotion of masterpieces of classical music.
