"Meetings in Russia" - the theater forum of Russian-speaking theaters has opened

ST. PETERSBURG. “Meetings in Russia” under this name is known for the theater festival, which opened on April 7 in St. Petersburg for the 16th time. The reason for his birth was the creative isolation of Russian-language theaters located in the former Soviet republics of the former Soviet Union.

The desire to help overcome the situation created this festival, the first time in Russia that brought together theaters in a single stage space that ended up in foreign countries - near and far. During the existence of the Meetings in Russia theater forum, more than 50 theater groups took part in it, on the stage of which performances in Russian are staged. Viewers saw more than 160 productions from their repertoire.

This time the participants of the “Meetings” were theaters that came to St. Petersburg from Armenia and Belarus, Kazakhstan and Moldova, Uzbekistan and Estonia. Unfortunately, in connection with the events in Ukraine, the Russian Theater from Lithuania and two Ukrainian groups from Kiev and Donetsk refused to participate.

Artists from the Kiev Drama named after Lesia Ukrainka was supposed to open the festival. It was planned that on the stage of the Baltic House Theater, they will present the work of their chief director, Mikhail Reznikovich, the Turgenev play "The Freeloader". On this day, viewers saw the play "Freken Julie" staged by the Drama Theater from the Belarusian city of Mogilev.

The festival poster does not only show performances. A round table will be held on the cultural cooperation of Russia with other CIS countries. The name of the event is the direction of the work of this event - "We are not strangers." As part of the festival, another important event will be held - the presentation of a theater prize to them.
