Eduard Tsekhoval, director of the Riga Theater, told media representatives that more than a hundred invitations had been sent. Each of the arriving guests visited the play “Indrana” staged in a drama written in 1904 by Rudolf Blaumanis, a classic of Latvian literature.

The premiere of the play “Indrana” was held at the end of May 2012, and at the next year’s theater festival, named after Blaumanis, the performance was awarded the main prize. The performance won in six categories. This play, staged by director Elmar Senkov, has become the brightest performance created in the Latvian theater art in recent times.

A short tour of the Russian drama from Riga became the first acquaintance of Omsk residents with a theater group from Latvia. Although the Riga Russian theater, bearing the name of Mikhail Chekhov, is the oldest of the Russian-speaking groups in foreign countries - last year he celebrated his 130th anniversary, he has not yet arrived in Omsk.

Two performances shown in Omsk presented works of not only Latvian, but also Russian classics. On the first day of the tour, the audience saw the comedy by A. Ostrovsky, directed by Russian director Igor Konyaev, “Not All is Shrovetide for a Cat”.

The next city, where artists from Latvia will come, will be Krasnoyarsk, and then the Riga Russian Drama Theater will go to meet with the audience of Irkutsk.
