International Independent Film Festival "2morrow / Tomorrow" was in jeopardy

The international festival of independent cinema "2morrow / Tomorrow" for 7 years acquaints the audience with a variety of representatives of the author’s cinema this year may never open. The festival organizers report that they have difficulties with financing. The organization of the event requires about 7 million rubles - this amount includes the costs of technical support and maintenance of paintings, rental of premises, advertising and printing support for the festival, the arrival and accommodation of guests, the work of a team of selectors and translators. Previously, the festival was financed from the state budget, but this year, for unknown reasons, many cultural events did not receive financial support, including 2morrow / Tomorrow.

Over the years, the festival has made an invaluable contribution to the development of auteur cinema, creating a platform for film screenings, meetings, discussions, rallying like-minded people around itself. The creators of the festival were in tireless search for new names, concepts, ideas and formats. They organized the audience meetings with such filmmakers as Jos Stelling, Alejandro Jodorowski, Abel Ferrara. Thanks to the “2morrow / Tomorrow” festival, viewers were the first to see films by Guy Maddin, Michel Gondry, Valeria Guy Germanicus and many other famous directors. Many workshops were held from Christopher Doyle, Marianne Slot, Sarunas Bartas, who gave novice filmmakers the necessary knowledge to further improve their work.

To date, the organizers of the 2morrow / Tomorrow festival have decided to launch a public fundraising campaign on the Planet (http://planeta.ru/campaigns/8652), where everyone can provide financial assistance to the cultural event. Many have already responded to a request for help, and most likely, this year’s festival will nevertheless take place, albeit with a delay of one to two months. Also, the organizers are still hoping to receive state funding, and if they succeed, they promise to increase the number of festival days and hold a large-scale cultural event.
