Premiere of "The Marriage of Figaro" from director Vasily Senin in "Shelter of the Comedian"

ST. PETERSBURG. Since Pierre Beaumarchais wrote the most popular play from the trilogy about the adventures of a cunning servant - “The Marriage of Figaro”, more than two centuries have passed. It is impossible to count the number of theaters that included in their repertoire this immortal comedy, always enthusiastically received by the public.

Now, among the performances presented on the poster of the St. Petersburg "Shelter of the Comedian", a production of "The Marriage of Figaro" also appeared. Her director and production designer was Vasily Senin, who has worked as the artistic director of the Pskov Drama Theater in recent years. Today, the famous director has plans for several projects. He is waiting for work in Russia and abroad, but The Marriage of Figaro was the first performance staged by Vasily Senin after leaving the Pskov drama.

In the director’s reading of the famous comedy, the number of characters significantly decreased - only the main characters of the play are present on the stage. The design of the scene is extremely concise - two cabinets with a table in the course of the play turn from Rosina’s room into gazebos, hiding the heroes mired in intrigue. They also serve as a platform from which actors pronounce their monologues. From the first glance at their costumes created by Irina Arlacheva, a wonderful artist, it becomes clear how crazy the day awaits the heroes of the play.

The light design, invented by Eugene Ganzburg, gives the ascetic scenery a tempting mystery. The backdrop of the scene, constantly changing color in the course of the action, transforms the stage space into a shadow theater at the end of the play. Heroes complete the performance by performing the original crane dance.

Since reconstruction is taking place in the Shelter of the Comedian, the premiere performances, which took place on August 8-14, were held on the Second Stage of the Bolshoi Drama Theater.
