DOMODEDOVO. The anniversary festival of archival cinema "White Pillars" has opened.

The festival of archival tapes “White Pillars” began its twentieth time, which will last from February 29 to March 5. According to Alexander Sokurov, even he did not see most of the rare films shown this year. The huge collection of the Gosfilmofond is a real cave of Ali Baba, opening one treasure after another. In addition to rarities from domestic archives, the program included tapes sent from the United States and Austria. The main goal of the festival is the return of forgotten names, a demonstration of unique finds, unexpected discoveries. One of them is the animated avant-garde from Oscar Fisinger, which has long been lost and has just been discovered at the State Film Fund. The animation section is rich in discovery: the groundbreaking 1947 Golden Scallop from Chaureli, Mujiri and Morab. Color "First Hunt" by Bianchi. A retrospective of Victor Sokolov’s films will introduce the director, whose work did not fit into the approved framework, safe for himself and those who decided the fate of the domestic film industry. Sincere, poetic, innovative films seem modern and timely, although some of them were shot half a century ago. His masterpiece, Friends and Years, Alexei German, was not only considered one of the best films made in the entire history of cinema, but also the “Overcoat” from which all worthy people working in this field came out. In the memoirs of Viktor Fedorovich, you can find a mention of the insults and accusations of anti-Soviet raining on him at the premiere in Smolny. An attempt to film the selected pages of Sholokhov’s “Quiet Don” with Clara Rumyanova and Nikolai Rybnikov in the lead roles several years before the release of the Gerasimov epic could be attributed to the category of pleasant surprises.
