"Red Turtle" and all-all-all at the Big Festival of the best cartoons

MOSCOW. The Big Festival of author’s cartoons has opened.

The big cartoon festival, the tenth season of which opened on October 27, was a logical continuation of the journalist Dina Goder’s “Weekend Cartoons” project. For 10 years, it has evolved from sessions in the Cultural Center "Assembly Hall" to film screenings at dozens of venues in different cities. The goal of the project - to get acquainted with the latest innovations of author’s animation and their creators - has remained unchanged, as is the presence at the helm of Dina Goder, now the program director of the BFM.

The program takes into account the preferences of viewers of different ages. It has children’s and main sections, films for advanced film lovers. Overture of the festival, the film of its opening was “Red Tortoise” (La Tortue rouge). This is the first feature film from the author Father and Daughter (Oscar 2011) Michael Dudok de Wit (Michaël Dudok de Wit). Work on the story of a man who fell on a desert island and a tortilla preventing him from escaping from there took place at Studio Ghibli, where he made his best films, Hayao Miyazaki. Artistic management was carried out by one of the founders of the studio - Isao Takahata, who shot the legendary "Tomb of Fireflies." At the last Cannes festival, La Tortue rouge was awarded a special prize in the “Special Look” section and rave reviews from French critics. The director drew inspiration from the pristine nature of the Seychelles and long lonely walks. Duduk de Wit found in himself the line that Hayao Miyazaki once spoke of, reflecting on the essence of animation.

In the “Documentary Animation” block, a retrospective of the Swedish director Yunas Odell, the film “Tower” by Keith Maitland about the Texas shooter, and the Oscar nominee “Last Day of Freedom” are presented. In other categories, films by representatives of the Estonian animation school Priit and Olga Pärn (“Pilots on the way home”), Anna Budanova’s award-winning film “Among the Black Waves”, witty “Lyapsus” by Juan Pablo Zaramella, and thesis “Where- that "with which she defended at the British School of Design. In the children’s section - “Molly Monster” by Matthias Brun and Michel Ekbladha, the continuation of the story about Petson and Findus - “The Best Christmas Ever”, the Cartoon Factory block, and British animated films.
