In the Nizhny Novgorod drama, director Valery Sarkisov presented his reading of the play "At the Bottom"

NIZHNY NOVGOROD. Fans of the Nizhny Novgorod drama will come to the official premiere of the play “At the Bottom” staged by the Moscow director Valery Sarkisov in January next year. The premiere is scheduled for January 6th. However, those wishing to see the new directorial work of Valery Sarkisov managed to do this already on December 15, when everyone was invited to attend the pre-premiere screening. For the director, the play “At the Bottom” became the eleventh production created in the Nizhny Novgorod drama. Valery Sarkisov has been cooperating with the theater staff since 2005.

According to Valery Sarkisov, the play “At the Bottom” for staging in the Nizhny Novgorod drama was chosen in connection with the upcoming anniversary of the author of the work. The 150th anniversary of Maxim Gorky will be celebrated in 2018. The director, on behalf of the director of the theater Boris Krainov, himself chose a play on which he will work.

Valery Sarkisov substantiated his choice by the fact that he considers On the Bottom one of the best dramatic works of world literature that has no analogues. The themes in it are touched by the eternal, which makes the play relevant today. No less important reason for the choice was the birthplace of the performance. It is symbolic to stage a play in the city where it was created.

The director became not only the creator of the play, but also his production designer. The design of the scene was also invented by Valery Sarkisov. Costumes for the performance were invented by the capital’s artist Andrei Klimov, with whom the director has long and fruitfully collaborated. The play has many interesting directorial finds.

Production events take place closer to our days. Therefore, the musical line of the performance has become unusual - it is composed of popular jazz tunes. The production includes many funny moments that are absent in many readings of the play.
