A bronze composition depicting Emperor Trajan naked and holding a wolf in his arms, after it was opened a few days ago at the entrance to the National Museum of Romanian History in Bucharest, continues to cause ridicule both in Romania and abroad.

The sculpture of Vasily Gorduz (1931-2008), represents the genesis of the Roman Empire, with a wolf as a symbolic animal. The strange position of Trajan and his nudity, and the fact that the wolf has a scarf around its neck, similar to the flag of the Dacians, caused a flood of jokes and mocking comments, both online and from real passersby who come across a statue.

“I have never seen anything so grotesque, the head of a wolf with a pit bull, with the tail of a lizard and a tumor in the neck, plus a naked man who only makes you feel like a nightmare,” is just one of the few comments on the Internet.

Museum curator Ernest Tarnoveanu Oberlender agrees with criticism. “I am not a prude and a conservative, but the statue erected here has dubious artistic value,” AFP quotes, believing that sooner or later this sculptural nightmare will disappear from its current prestigious place.
