Sotheby’s puts up for sale eight portraits of Frank Auerbach

A Sotheby’s spokesperson announced that a wonderful group of works by one of the greatest living artists, Frank Auerbach, will be on sale at the Evening Auction of Contemporary Art auction in London on Tuesday, June 26, 2012..

Works for the auction are presented from the personal collection of Joseph and Ruth Bromberg (Joseph and Ruth Bromberg), friends of the artist since the 1990s. Collected over 17 years, a unique collection of eight portraits of Ruth Bromberg tells the story of a deep friendship between the artist and his model. The expected selling price of the paintings is more than 1.8 million pounds. All proceeds will be used to support the Drawings Department of The Israel Museum, engraving and drawing section, in memory of the son of Ruth and Joseph, Michael, who died at the age of twenty from a serious illness.

Commenting on the sale of this collection, Oliver Barker, Sotheby’s vice chairman and senior specialist in international contemporary art, said: “The collection of eight portraits by Frank Auerbach is the most significant collection of the artist’s ever exhibited. The most amazing thing is that we were able to tell the story of each picture through correspondence between Frank, Ruth and Joseph. ”

On the example of the Ruth Bromberg collection, one can well trace how the artist’s views on his muse developed and changed, how his artistic techniques and techniques were honed, what new facets of beauty were revealed to the master.
