A painting worth 4 million was found lost 42 years ago.

A painting of Roy Lichtenstein, worth several million dollars, which disappeared 42 years ago, was found in a warehouse in Manhattan.

The last time the "Electric Cord" ("Electric Cord") was seen in 1970. Then its owner, Leo Castelli (Leo Castelli) sent the work for professional cleaning. But the picture disappeared, and since then nothing was known about her fate.

Leo Castelli, who held Liechtenstein’s first solo exhibition in his gallery in 1962, bought the Electric Cord for $ 750 in the sixties. In January 1970, he sent the painting for cleaning to a reputable restorer, Daniel Goldreyer. But Goldreyer did not return the picture, telling the owner that it was lost.

Liechtenstein, known for his comic book portraits, died in 1997, and Leo Castelli - in 1999. The record “stolen / disappeared” appeared on the picture in the international registry in 2007.

And last week, James Goodman, the owner of the gallery, called the Liechtenstein Foundation and said that “third parties” informed him that the painting was in Hayes Storage, the painting “surfaced” in the art storage in the East End, where they tried to sell it. He asked if the fund could confirm the authenticity of the work. It was then from the organization that disturbed Barbara Castelli.

In an interview with The Post, Goodman noted that he did not even imagine that the painting could have been stolen, and the current owners would need to show a document confirming that they bought this work of art from Leo Castelli.

The woman requested a restraining order, which was designed to prevent the movement of paintings, worth $ 4 million, from the Hayes Storage Warehouse before the day of the trial. In her court statement, she indicated that she was “extremely worried” that the painting “which is the American treasure of the artist’s authorship from Manhattan, will disappear again, and perhaps no one will see her again.”

Judge Peter Sherwood signed the Castelli warrant, thereby freezing the movement of the painting before the hearing on Monday. Representatives of the store declined to comment on the situation.
