At the lecture “Ex-Machines: Virtual World in Cinema of the 21st Century” we will discuss the main achievements of world cinema in creating an alternative reality - computer worlds, experiences of immersion in virtual reality, utopian and anti-utopian scenarios of the meeting of the digital and human world. We will discuss the crisis of identity, unsolvable moral dilemmas, the question of the primacy of the machine or human worlds, reason or technology, considering both blockbusters from The Matrix to Blade Runner 2049 and the author’s cinema from Shane Carrut’s films to Stephen Soderberg’s films.
