Photo exhibition "Latin America:
Illusions and the Reality of the Other Side of the Earth"

October 2, 2015 at 19:00 in St. Petersburg in the creative cluster "ARTMUZA" the grand opening of the photo exhibition "Latin America: Illusions and the Reality of the Other Side of the Earth" will be held.

The exhibition will introduce the viewer to the bright, sometimes even exotic, works of outstanding photographers from Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Cuba, Nicaragua and other countries of the Southern Hemisphere.

Among the participants of the photo exhibition, Maria Candelaria Rivera is a photographer from Nicaragua, who at the age of 28 became the finalist of the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards; Alejandro Olivares - a photographer from Chile who worked for more than 10 years as a photo editor of The Clinic magazine, the country’s most widely read social and political publication, and more than once won the prize for the best photography of the year in Latin America; Luis Arturo Aguirre, Time Magazine, included his name in the list of “9 Mexican Photographers You Like”, Raul Canibagno is one of the most famous Cuban photographers.

Each of the exhibitors in his own way sees, feels and tries to convey what Latin America lives today. Young photographers discover the real Latin America - a difficult region, of which we know so little, and which we are accustomed to think of as a distant sunny paradise. “Beaches and Shakira” - these are the simple associations that a Russian unprepared audience will associate with Latin America. At best, he will remember Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Fidel Castro. However, the modern life of these amazing and completely dissimilar countries, of course, has little to do with common patterns. “Illusions and the reality of that side of the earth” are phenomena much more unexpected and exciting than we can imagine.

The exhibition will be held as part of the international forum "Russia and Iberoamerica in a Globalizing World: History and Present". The organizer of the Ibero-American forum is St. Petersburg State University with the support of the Institute of Latin America RAS.
