The current year is declared the cross year of Russia and Japan. The Pushkin Museum. A.S. Pushkin is preparing two large-scale exhibitions, which will become the central event of the cultural program. In Tokyo, and then in Osaka, the exhibition "The evolution of the French landscape from the collection of the Pushkin Museum im. A.S. Pushkin ”, where the best works from the world famous part of the museum collection will be presented - works by the impressionists and post-impressionists. In September – October 2018, in Moscow, with the support of Rosneft, the “Exhibition of Masterpieces of Painting of the Edo Era” will be shown.

At the exhibition "The evolution of the French landscape from the collection of the Pushkin Museum im. A. Pushkin ”in the Tokyo Municipal Museum of Art and the National Museum of Art (Osaka) 65 paintings by French masters of the 17th – 20th centuries will be shown, including works by Claude Lorrain, Jean-Baptiste Pater, Francois Boucher, Claude-Joseph Vernet, Hubert Robert, Camille Corot, Paul Cezanne, Gustav Courbet, Maurice Denis, Paul Gauguin, Henri Russo, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet and several others. Japanese viewers will be able to see genuine masterpieces, including Claude Monet’s “Breakfast on the Grass,” “An Attack of the Jaguar on a Horse” by Henri Russo, “Mount St. Victoria” by Paul Cezanne, “The Abduction of Europe” by Claude Lorrain. The works of impressionist and post-impressionist artists from the collection of the Pushkin Museum are well known all over the world and often take part in international exhibitions, but in Japan most of the paintings will be shown for the first time.

An inclusive program has been prepared for the exhibition: a video guide in international sign language has been prepared for people with hearing problems, and portable tactile layouts will allow blind and visually impaired visitors to literally feel the change in compositional principles.

In September 2018, in Moscow, with the support of Rosneft, the “Exhibition of Masterpieces of Painting from the Edo Era” will be presented. The exposition will feature more than 120 works by various traditional schools and artistic movements in Japanese art of the 17th – 19th centuries - the period of the country’s self-isolation when the revival of traditional art took place. It is believed that it was in the Edo era that Japanese art reached its highest peak. Many of the works that will be presented at the exhibition have the status of a National Treasure, a Particularly valuable object of culture and a Particularly valuable piece of art and rarely leave Japan.

State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin

The A. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is a museum complex that has one of the largest art collections of foreign art in Russia, and stores artifacts created by masters from different eras - from Ancient Egypt and ancient Greece to the present day. Today, the museum has about 700 thousand works. The pearl of the collection is one of the most famous collections of works by French impressionists and post-impressionists in the world.

Tokyo Municipal Museum of Art

Tokyo Municipal Museum of Art was established in 1926. It arose in a turning point for Japan - the year of the end of the Taisho era (1912–1926) and the beginning of the Showa era (1926–1989). The creation of the museum was made possible thanks to a cash donation from entrepreneur Keitaro Sato. Located in Ueno Park, the museum almost immediately became the main venue for the annual major art exhibitions that took place in the fall, thereby creating the proverb that is now widespread in Japan: "Autumn is the season of art." For almost a century of history, the Tokyo Municipal Museum of Art has managed to present many exhibitions of Japanese artists and artists from around the world, both independent and state-sponsored. The long tradition of holding joint exhibitions with other museums and institutions is now continuing to develop, thanks to which unique projects of the highest level are being implemented.

Osaka National Museum of Art

The National Museum of Art in Osaka is one of the largest Japanese exhibition centers, hosting annually the largest exhibitions of foreign art. The basis of his collection is the work of the second half of the 20th century. The museum, which opened in 1977, moved to a new building designed by architect Cesar Pelli in 2004. The uniqueness of this structure is that three of its four floors are located entirely underground. The above-ground floor, which is a construction of metal pipes, supplies the lower tiers with light and provides air circulation. To date, the museum’s collection has more than five thousand works of art. Among them are the works of Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Vasily Kandinsky, Paul Cezanne, Alexander Calder, Fujita Tsuguharu (Leonara Fujita), Courts of Etsuhiro, Takamatsu Jiro, Max Ernst and many others.
