Personal exhibition of Alexander Pankin "From neo-avant-garde to scientific art"

November 4 at 19:00 in the gallery "Peresvetov pereulok" will open the exhibition of works by Alexander Pankin "From neo-avant-garde to scientific art", which will feature paintings, drawings and installation objects created in a distinctive manner of the artist - a combination of artistic thought and mathematical calculations. With this exhibition, the gallery for the first time, after a pause in connection with the repair work, opens its updated space.

The Peresvetov Lane Gallery continues to acquaint viewers with the work of Alexander Pankin, one of the representatives of the Russian neo-avant-garde. This year’s exhibition presents large-scale paintings, drawings and installation objects created during different periods of the artist’s work: from the mid-90s. and before the start of the new century.

Pankin’s career began in the 60s. At that time, abstract compositions exploring space were characteristic of him. Already in early works, Alexander Pankin presented his original vision of the relationship between number and form, thoughts about proportional systems and mythology of mathematical significance.

The basis of the artist’s works in the period of the 90s. becomes a geometric and proportional analysis of the Suprematist compositions of Kazimir Malevich. Exhibition projects of this period are a kind of dialogue with the Russian avant-garde of the 20s. Reflecting on his works of the early 90s, Alexander Pankin defines the tendency of artistic thought to border areas with science, the term “scientific art”: the art form is the result of visualization of mathematical objects - number series, irrational and transcendental numbers, scientific representations.

Objects created in the late 90’s. referred to by the author as "meta-abstractions", they determine a steady tendency to create balanced compositions.

Within the framework of the exhibition, on November 8, at 14:00, a lecture “Scientific art in the context of neo-avant-garde” will be held.

The Moscow Exhibition Halls Association is a new project of the Moscow Department of Culture dedicated to the decentralization of culture and the modernization of the activities of cultural organizations. The association includes 18 exhibition halls located in 10 districts of Moscow. Gallery "Peresvetov Lane" exists on Avtozavodskaya for almost three decades. It held the shocking actions of the underground of the 1980s, conceptual exhibitions and performances of the Avant-Garde Club (KLAVA) and impromptu shows of the Order of Courtyard Mannerists of the 1990s. Such famous artists as Avdey Ter-Oganyan, Vladimir Dubosarsky, Aidan Salakhova, Valery Koshlyakov began their career in the gallery. The Peresvetov Pereulok Gallery is a territory of an art experiment, innovative ideas and classics outside the archaic, one of the legendary centers of the artistic life of Moscow.
