The planetarium will take part for the first time at the 5th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art

It is here, on the territory of the art space “Level 9”, a special project of the Biennale “Gateways. Pole Change ”, organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Year of Russia-Holland 2013, the Dutch Center for International Cultural Activities SICA, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Russian Academy of Arts, the New Art Foundation ”, Mondrian Foundation and Wilhelmina E. Jansen Foundation.

The curators of the project are Maarten Bertö (Netherlands), Vitaliy Patsyukov (Russia), the creative tandem of Kolesnikov / Denisov (Russia).

Exhibition “Gateways. Pole-change ”, consisting of the works of the most influential contemporary artists of Russia and the Netherlands, is designed to reveal hidden meanings in everyday consciousness, open the so-called“ gateways ”, and expand the notorious, artificially created borders of the modern world.

Artists of the project “Gateways. Pole change ”will show reality as a free communication system, in the structure of which there is a constant exchange of information.

Changing the poles, allowing art strategies to flow from one zone to another, influencing each other, the joint Russian-Dutch project will turn into a contextual training ground where an absolutely unique experience of the joint existence of art communities and national cultures will open up.

The exhibition will work daily, except Tuesday, from October 12 to November 4, 2013.

Exhibition “Gateways. Pole change ”consists of the works of the most influential contemporary artists of the two countries, thus supporting a cultural dialogue between them. The exhibition features graphics, painting, photography, video art, kinetic objects and installations, most of which were created specifically for this exhibition.

The provocative images of Marlene Dumas, exhibited for the first time in Russia, the post-modern painting of Rob Birza, the surrealistic style of Rene Daniels are side by side with the kinetic objects of Alla Urban, interactive installations by artist-inventor Sergey Katran and Holy Polyethylene Leonid Tishkov.

Project “Gateways. Pole change ”considers reality as an open communication system, in the structure of which there is a constant exchange of information. Signals and information flows in this system form a new artistic organism that preserves the binary nature of its levels, but at the same time allows them to change their poles, alternating inputs and outputs.

The artists of the project “Gateways” offer alternative rhetoric, objectively reflecting reality, but at the same time transforming the usual view of the world. Images of artists are unique entities that change the everyday representation of reality and at the same time affect it.

So, the rainbow installation of Leonid Tishkov’s “The Miracle of St. Polyethylene” actually turns us to the problem of total pollution of the Earth by non-decomposable waste, and the “Mill of Time” by Alla Urban shows us changing views on the same phenomenon. “Everything is for the best!” Reads the headline of the newspaper that makes up the mill, but at some point this “best” falls into one position with the bad.
