The Pushkin Museum joins the support of the World Day of People with Down Syndrome

Pushkin Museum im. A.S. Pushkin traditionally joins the support of the World Down Syndrome Day. There are no public events in the program this year, but on March 21 a special meeting will take place at the museum: Natalya Kortunova, a researcher at the Pushkin Museum, will lead a tour of the exhibition Mummies of Ancient Egypt. The Art of Immortality" for teenagers from the Down Syndrome Support Fund "Love Syndrome".

Children and adults with Down syndrome are regular participants in various events at Pushkinskoye, since the communication and intellectual accessibility of the museum for different categories of visitors is the main goal of the Pushkin Museum’s Accessible Museum program. So, the museum regularly hosts various classes from the teachers of the Museion aesthetic education center for children and adolescents with Down syndrome. In classes with art therapist and artist, employee of the children’s center Maria Dreznina, participants get acquainted with the works in the halls of the museum, and then try to interpret the painting or sculpture in their drawings or collages and discuss the results. Also, specially for this date, the Love Syndrome Charitable Foundation and the Bazelevs film company presented the cartoon directed by Zhanna Bekmambetova Andryusha’s Diary, which tells about a boy with Down syndrome and was created based on the comic book of the same name by Ekaterina Denisova.

The cartoon shows how interesting, talented and multifaceted people with Down syndrome are, and also unobtrusively exposes the myths around this feature. According to the script, the main character of the cartoon is at the exhibition with the mummies of ancient Egypt in the museum. "Andryusha’s Diary" was created in the style of plasticine 3D animation, it is complemented by subtitles in "clear language" and a soundtrack created by the SBHR group.
