PHOTOBOOKFEST presents the 2017 Unseen Dummy Award finalists exhibition, which will be held in the White Hall of the Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography from May 23 to June 3, 2018.
The Unseen Dummy Award is a Dutch book layout competition that gives young photographers and designers from around the world a unique opportunity to make themselves known in the international photography industry. Winner’s photobook is published by Lecturis. The prize is coordinated by Daria Tuminas (Russia / Netherlands).
Over the six years of its existence, the award has invited the jury of important representatives of the world of modern photography, including C / O Berlin gallery curator Ann-Christine Bertrand, Remy Coignet, editor of The Eyes magazine, Simon Baker, chief curator of the Tate Modern gallery in London, and started many young artists who have chosen a photo book as a means of expressing their creative ideas.
During the PHOTOBOOKFEST 2018 festival, 33 books will be presented on the short list of the Unseen Dummy Award 2017, including a photo book of the 2017 winner Malgozhata Stankevich “cry of echo” dedicated to the Bialowieza Forest - Europe’s last primeval forest, which can disappear from the face of the Earth, as well as the project of the Japanese artist Miki Hasegawa, “Inner Notebook”, awarded the Special Mention (Separate mention), from different angles revealing the topic of domestic violence.
The short list of the Unseen Dummy Award 2017 will be presented by the contest coordinator Daria Tuminas on May 25 as part of the weekend educational program with Unseen. Also on May 27, an artist-talk will take place with last season prize winner Malgozhata Stankevich, in which the artist will share her personal experience, talk about work on the project, from developing an idea to implementing it in a book format.
The exhibition was prepared by the PHOTOBOOKFEST 2018 festival together with Unseen Amsterdam with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Russian Federation.
