Exhibition "SHOES ILLUSION". Photo, video, installations

On June 8, 2016, at 19:00, the Nagornaya Gallery gallery opens an exhibition in the exhibition hall dedicated to the study of the connection between shoes and the “world of illusions” in the context of fashion and cinema, where transformations take place that radically change lives as a result of changing clothes and, mainly, changing shoes.

The exhibition will feature photographs, videos and installations, accompanied by sound and other sensory "special effects" that will recreate the illusion of immersion in the world of shoe dreams.

“… A dream on your feet is a step towards the realization of the dream of your whole life” (Roger Vivier).

For many decades, with minor variations, the fashion and beauty industries have been replicating the same fabulous scenario, promising “transformation magic,” a better life and their own pair of crystal shoes or sneakers for a superhero. Banal comfort and convenience - nothing compared to the magical transformations that promise a pair of shoes. Plots with dressing up / transformation from fairy tales (“Cinderella”) migrated to the cinema (exchanging dresses and life for a while or forever - Joanna in “The Funny Face” (1957), Tess McGill in “Business Woman” (1988), Vivienne in “Pretty Woman” ”(1990), Andy in“ The Devil Wears Prada ”(2006)), where the world of illusions is created by means of an“ insignificant ”scrap of matter and a few accessories.

The exhibition invites you to the magical world of a shoe store that “sells” the most coveted illusions. Here everyone will find a mate to their taste: first they “try on” a fabulously fashionable scenario on their own, and then they will be able to almost consider the shoe illusion in action, which will be created before his eyes.

Aromas designed by perfumer Irina Vaganova specifically for the exhibition will help to recreate the illusion.

Lyudmila Alyabyeva: “For me, this exhibition was a completely special project, primarily because my former and current students act as co-curators and participants, which cannot but rejoice in itself!…. The idea is to create a synthetic project in which the visual, sound and olfactory dimensions will be combined always inspired me, so I just could not give up the temptation to act as an illusionist, creating ephemeral worlds. Ultimately, fashion itself is such an “ephemeral empire” that cleverly juggles with images, dreams and illusions. ”

June 14, 19:00 - lecture "Tale of fashion and fashion about a fairy tale: subjects, motives, scenarios."

The curator of the exhibition, Lyudmila Alyabyeva, will talk about how important and often plot-forming role costume and shoes play in fairy tales, as well as how “fashion”, in turn, enjoys using fairy-tale motifs, promising its “victims” the most incredible magical transformations. By “rereading” fairy tales familiar from childhood, one can consider how they are transformed into cinema, fashion photography, and advertising.
