Exhibition "Vitaly Smagin. Painting, Graphics"

December 21 at 16.00 in the main building of the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum. V.P. Sukachev (5 Lenin St.) opens an exhibition of one of the most outstanding painters of Siberia Vitaly Smagin, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the master. The exposition includes works from different years from the museum’s collection, as well as from the collection of the artist’s family.

“The art of Vitaly Smagin is a vivid and distinctive phenomenon in the artistic life not only of Siberia, but also of Russia as a whole. The originality and depth of artistic thinking allowed him to philosophically comprehend the surrounding reality and create works that meet the worldview of modern man, ”the museum’s art historians say about the work of the master.

At the exhibition, you can see a retrospective of the master’s work from the 70s of the last century and the last work written before leaving life in December 2015. The presented works allow us to trace all the stages of the artist’s creative path, whose creative manner has changed more than once throughout his life. Here you can see portraits of contemporaries, philosophically meaningful city landscapes, paintings on the mythology of the peoples of the Baikal region, realistic plot paintings, as well as works made in an abstract manner. In total, the exposition included more than 70 works - in addition to monumental paintings, sketches, watercolors and pencil drawings by the artist are also presented.
