In 2017, the 260th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Academy of Arts is celebrated. The Academy is the largest center of Russian art culture. She preserves the classical heritage of the Russian art school and welcomes everything talented in contemporary art, ensuring its future. Her work has made a huge contribution to domestic culture. The modern Academy has deep historical roots. She is the successor to the Imperial Academy of Arts, which ensured the great achievements of Russian art of the 18th – 20th centuries and created its own art school, which educated the classics of Russian art.
By a significant date, the Academy has prepared a multimedia exhibition project that will present the creative, scientific, educational and enlightening activities of the Russian Academy of Arts.
The unique design of the exhibition was developed by a famous architect, member of the Academy Yu. I. Avvakumov. In several halls of the MVK PAX Art Gallery on Prechistenka 19, in 12 thematic pavilions on 50 monitors, video presentations will be shown on the creation, history of the Academy of Arts, its modern life. The viewer will get acquainted with unique photo materials from the academic archives. The richest graphic series will be presented the activities of all departments of the Academy - the work of masters of the art of painting, graphics, sculpture, architecture, decorative arts, theater and film artists. Photographs of the works of Russian academic classics, leading contemporary masters will allow the viewer to trace the main trends in the development of pictorial and sculptural monumental and easel sculpture. Video presentations of the educational and creative work of students of academic institutes and lyceums, the work of interns and graduates of academic creative workshops in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, Rostov-on-Don, paint an impressive picture of the future development of Russian art.
The exhibition creates a voluminous view of the scientific, museum and educational activities of the Academy, foreign projects, the activities of the Academy’s branches in the Russian regions - in the Volga region, in the south of Russia, in the Urals, in Siberia and the Far East. A special section is devoted to the performing arts: restoration and the technological process of creating monumental works. He introduces the work of unique academic creative and production workshops - the Foundry and the Mosaic Workshop, whose activities are closely connected with the history of Russian fine art.
In the "New Technologies" pavilion, visitors use virtual reality helmets to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the creative workshops of academics.
The direction of the exposition allows you to create a complete and deep understanding of all areas of the Academy’s activities, the highest professionalism of its masters. Recognize the importance of maintaining and improving the academic system of art education, traditional and new art technologies and the possibility of transferring this knowledge to new generations. The exhibition reveals the advantages of a modern three-level system of academic art education: lyceum - institute - creative workshop. She emphasizes the need for scientific understanding of the experience of the artistic processes of past centuries and the development of art history today as the basis of modern humanitarian science.
The exposition demonstrates the most important historical, artistic and scientific significance of the Russian Academy of Arts in the modern world.
