The album contains approximately a quarter to a fifth of Gothic and pre-Renaissance paintings, about two-thirds of Renaissance works, including the later period, and around one-third from the 18th century to the early 20th century. It covers practically the entire timeframe up to modern masters.
Im glad that the collection of a great museum like the Brera Gallery is featured on your website alongside other excellent collections. However, I am somewhat disappointed that the panorama of Italian painting presented there does not fully reflect the diversity characteristic of this museum. The names of artists from the Brera Gallery are missing, which makes the overall picture of the museum seem incomplete. For example, there are many paintings by Aiezza, while works by Andrea di Bartolo, Lorenzo Veneziano, Barnaba da Modena, Fra Carnevale, and others, or even rarer masters like Zavatari, could have been included. I would like to see the website management focus more on the diversity of artists and the breadth of artistic panorama rather than providing a more extensive representation of the work of any single artist, no matter how talented they may be. This way, you will be more like a true encyclopedia of painting, rather than an encyclopedia of preferences.
Id like to disagree with Evgeny Ardayev. Why do you think that any high-quality painting from the Brera Gallery can be displayed here? Only Bill Gates, who founded a special company called Corbis, has the limitless resources needed to purchase rights for digitized masterpieces of art. Perhaps not everything in the Brera Gallery is digitized yet.
According to experts, the collection of Italian Renaissance paintings at the Pinacoteca di Brera is one of the most complete in Italy and second only to the museums of Florence. Unfortunately, this selection doesnt reflect that. By the way, the museum widely uses new technologies; you can see how restorers work in their workshops through a glass wall – its a fascinating sight! There are indeed too many Ayyecas in the selection, while the museum itself dedicates only one large hall to 19th and 20th-century art.
Out of approximately 350 paintings from the Quattrocento period in the Pinacoteca di Brera, over 200 are on display. One can get a good understanding of the old masters through this museums collection.
